It’s been a while since Newcastle did anything in the transfer window, but the Magpies are finally back in the market with Striker William Osula linked.
William Osula, currently at Championship side Sheffield United looks to be the man Newcastle United are looking for. Likely coming in as the third striker, Osula is likely to get decent game time given Callum Wilson is good friends with the treatment table.
While Osula isn’t the “marque signing” some fans will want, the striker market is not cheap, so picking up a young prospect who has Premier League experience, albeit limited for just £15m is rare in this market.
As of publishing, a fee of around £10m plus add-ons (thought to be around £5m) has been agreed with Sheffield United. Though, as of now, the player and Newcastle United have yet to reach an agreement.
Once that’s sorted, however, a medical will be booked and Osula could be in line to feature at next weekend’s Sela Cup set of fixtures. Crucially, it gives Osula some time to train with his new teammates before the season starts, something that will be valuable ahead of such a key season.
Newcastle now Look to move for other key targets
It’s been no secret that a right winger and a right-sided centre-back are high on Eddie Howe’s wishlist, so we expect something to happen in that area of the pitch fairly soon.
As things stand, Thiaw of AC Milan remains the most likely at CB, though the two clubs are apparently around £8 short but a deal is still progressing.
Out wide, the rumours have been much slower with very few new links emerging. This is likely to do with the fact that Newcastle need to move on Almiron before they can commit to signing anyone to replace him.
